Well were at the end of skull week, poop. I had fun this week not having to worry about what to paint and just paint. Skull week will be back. Next week I'm thinking landscapes, that is if I can convince myself to leave the apt. Have a good weekend.

When I set up today's setup I put a blue sketchbook on the shadow side of the skull so the reflected light would be blue. Hopefully it reads in today's painting. Looking back at this weeks work and today's feels more solid than the other ones. One more in this weeks series to go. I'm thinking a profile. Everyone have a good day.

Lucky 13
Here is today's skull. It is a three quarter view which are a bit tougher. On a gear related note my tripod for my paint box came in. So far so good. Is it bad that I want a bigger pochade box? Na I have everything that I need to work I just need to focus about the work. I also figured out the music situation. I put on the same stuff that I used to work to before. I have heard this stuff so many times that I'm not even paying attention to it. Why listen you ask? It helps drown out all noise. Enjoy your hump day.

P.S. I still haven't figured out a good place to take pictures of these.

Another week down. It was a hard week but I got through it. Did we learn anything? Most likely. Next week will be all skulls so it should be fun. At least I don't have to worry about figuring out what I'm going to paint. Have a good weekend.

This week has progressively gotten harder to work. I think I've exhausted my bag of tricks and am now since I am not doing the old standby, painting has become difficult again (that is a good thing). I also noticed today that I'm trying too hard for everything to be perfect and I'm not painting, or I'm not losing myself in the work. That sounds really artsy fartsy, but when it happens it's bad ass. Before you know it's three hours later and your work is finished. I think worrying about what iTunes is playing keeps me from having that shift in my head. I think next week I'm going to work from the replica skull that I have. I can draw skulls but I can't really draw skulls. If that makes sense. Expect five skull paintings next week.

Today I decided to switch to oils. It's been a very long time since I've painted in oils. We used to be real good friends me and oils but I stopped using them due to school and acrylic is way easier to clean up. I'm very out of practice. I am not happy with my brushes, that what I get for purchasing brushes based on their handle size and not by the quality of the brush. I wanted smaller handles so they would fit into my pochade box. If anyone is interested this is the one I own. I have yet to use this box outside. Its become a useful tool around the house to do smaller paintings on, and fits happily on my lap. Todays painting was done on my box. (I giggle every time I type box, I'm like a five year old.) See ya tomorrow. EXTERMINATE!!!

In an effort to become a better painter I have decided to paint something everyday. Today reminded me how much I still have to learn about painting. I forgot how hard it is to paint something the way it looks. Also how different it is to paint on an easel, im used to sitting at a desk and working. Well here is number 1. It can only get better from here, I hope. Heh.
